This PicoLoader is a ODE (optical drive emulator) based mod chip for Gamecube to boot homebrew. It works similarly to PicoBoot but uses the DVD drive interface rather than soldering to the IPL. It also allows full functionality of the DVD to be retained by the console.
It can be configured to boot directly to the Swiss homebrew .dol file. Swiss has many functions, but will also allow playing out of region discs.
Follow the instructions carefully pertaining to the preparation and seating of the flex cable in the drive connector. If the cable is torn or sits unevenly, it can be damaged or not boot correctly.
Includes:
- PicoLoader Rev. 1.4 flex cable
- Raspberry Pi Pico 2040 from Raspberry Pi foundation (no clones)
- 1N5819 Schottky diode
- 3D printed bracket to mount the Pi inside the GC case
- mounting hardware
Pre-soldered option will have the Pi Pico and diode soldered to the flex and screwed into the 3D printed bracket. Extra caution will be necessary to fold and insert the flex into the drive connector as damaging it will require a replacement flex and pi and diode desoldered from the damaged one and resoldered to the replacement.
Replacement flex option will only include the flex cable.
Swiss will be installed on the Pico unless you Contact Dan below with other instructions. This may delay shipping your order as scheduled on the store's banner.
This mod is designed to add functionality to a stock Gamecube. It does require the proper size gamebit screw driver to access the inside of the Gamecube. Soldering is required for the DIY kit.
Upgrading Swiss for a future updated release will require opening the Gamecube to connect a USB micro cable (not included) to the Pi Pico to update the file.
Bracket is 3D printed here at HQ. The flex cable is sourced from China. Raspberry Pi Pico 2040 is sourced from approved US vendors and flashed and tested here. Diode and mounting hardware are sourced from digikey or mouser.
This, like all pcbs sold at RingerKeys RetroModStore, cannot be returned due to the sensitive and fragile nature of printed circuit boards. If you have any questions about this or any of our products, please contact Dan from the menu below.
Additionally flex cable folding and insertion instructions must be followed closely from the project installation instructions. Flex cable is delicate and can be damaged by creasing incorrectly or melted if not carefully soldered. Damaged flex cables will not be replaced and will require a new purchase to correct.
