#Opener. We wanted something different, something DIY, an artifact or conversation piece to keep on your desk.
Before Lin Design Studio had an IC for the amazing box75 he wowed me with a lube station design. Almost the very next day, we started on an opener. This #Opener has had 4 prototype runs, lasting over a year, countless switches have been opened and equal number of hours brainstorming on how to make it better. The mod team and some VIPs at RingerKeys Discord have used and given feedback on many versions.
- Stainless steel interlocking design
- DIY/build it yourself, ships flat packed and needs assembly
- 45x18x18mm
Below are the build instructions.
Some observations:
The last piece, prior to putting in the screws may need a gentle nudge with a flat head screwdriver to make sure the holes are aligned.
We recommend hand tightening the screws, as we've seen over tightening leading to misalignment and trouble opening some switches.
A dab of clear nail polish may help keep the screws from loosening once constructed.
"Sharpening" the Kailh points with a file or metal grinder has improved Kailh opening percentages.
It will not open every switch. Efforts were made to test as many as possible, some are easier to open than others, MX switches open more reliably than Kailh (wing latch).
Laser cut stainless steel may have inconsistent finish/colorization, and it is common to find a burr point where the laser starts/stops.
Refund and return policies hold true for this product. If you're looking for an opener with higher compatibility keep looking. If you want to support RingerKeys and our designers, make a purchase.
Refunds/Returns requests will not be accepted for "it won't open switch x." I love the Kiiboss opener. It opens everything I try. This opener is awesome. Your support directly helps new products at RingerKeys and supports the efforts at Lin Design Studio.
